Collection of 13 copper-engraved plates by Benard Direxit, relevant to rope-making, likely from Diderot's Encyclopedie. Loose leaves are about 9-by-12 inches (plates numbered 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 33, 35, 36, 37) and 18-by-12 inches (numbered 34, 91), and all are labeled "Marine" at the bottom. Includes scenes of men fashioning ropes and pulley systems, numbered figures, and with two botanical plates showing the controversial weed that hemp rope is made from.
