About this Item

This striking collection of 12 wood framed anti-Nazi caricatures of Nazi and fascist leaders (Hitler, Mussolini, Goering, and Tojo) mocks the ruthless Nazi methods and ridicules Hitler's pretensions. Each lithographic reproduction is framed. Each frame measures either 10 x 13 1/4" (caricatures: 9 x 12 1/4") or 13 1/4 x 10" (caricatures: 12 1/4 x 9"). - L'Indigestion (1944): Caricature showing Hitler in bed suffering from indigestion, and throwing up all the countries he invaded. In the distance, the Allies (Uncle Sam, John Bull, Marianne of France, and the Russian bear) are watching the scene with delight. (Size: 10 x 13 1/4")- Le Départ ! (1944): Hitler and Mussolini dressed in a traditional Japanese costume are ready to embark onboard a Japanese submarine. Both seem utterly depressed, and Hitler is even trying to console weeping Benito! In the distance Goering and his servants are also dressed in Japanese clothes, and are weeping while also waiting to embark. (Size: 10 x 13")- Neutralité (1945): At the border between France and Spain, a flock of refugees are fleeing Nazi-occupied France, only to find themselves persecuted by Hispania. (Size: 10 x 13 1/4")- Maison Luftwaffe (1944): Hermann Goering is pictured in uniform with countless medals on his chest trying to sell hot air balloons as well as wooden puppets of Hitler and Mussolini. (Size: 13 1/4 x 10")- Accueil Cordial ! (1945): A free French resistant wearing the Lorraine Cross is arrested at the French-Spanish border by two Spanish guards. (Size: 13 1/4 x 10")- La Note ! (1944): Hitler is seated at the table of a restaurant. He seems to be sated as the whole world was his feast. At the end of his meal, he is presented a rather long check by a giant 'Death' dressed as a waiter. The check is made of a list of countries Hitler and his allies invaded or attempted to invade. Mussolini and Tojo are seen terrorized and trying to hide under the table. (Size: 13 1/4 x 10")- Jongleur ! (1944): A rather uncomfortable Hitler, dressed as a clown is depicted juggling with 4 flying bombs (V-1, V-3, V-4, and V-9) on top of a terrestrial globe held by a tiny Mussolini and a tinier Tojo also dressed as clowns. In the distance, the Allies (Uncle Sam, John Bull, Marianne of France, and the Russian bear) are watching the scene with obvious delight. (Size: 13 1/4 x 10")- Monnaie d'échange ! (1945): Hispania, the personification of Spain, is seen holding a scale with political prisoners on one side, and loads of goods being brought in on the other side by John Bull and Uncle Sam who are visibly trying to get the prisonners released. (Size: 10 x 13 1/4")- Les Deux Conquérants (1944): Badly beat up and wounded Hitler and Mussolini are pictured on top of a globe. Hitler is desperately clentching to a V-1 bomb, while Mussolini, his left leg amputated, is playing the traditional Italian mandolin. (Size: 13 1/4 x 10")- Fou Dangereux Nr. 1 (1944): A mad Hitler is depicted playing with a terrestrial globe in his cell. A tiny Mussolini is playing the mandolin, while Tojo is clentching to Hitler's right leg. The Allies (Uncle Sam, John Bull, Marianne of France, and the Russian bear) are watching the scene through the cell iron door. (Size: 10 x 13 1/4")- Evadé ! (1945): From the British shore, John Bull and an escaped Free-French resistant wearing the Lorraine Cross are raising a vengeful fist across the Channel towards Nazi-occupied France, where a German soldier is seen keeping Marianne of France in chains. John Bull and the French resistant are accompanied with the traditional British lion. (Size: 10 x 13 1/4")- Liberté (1944): A weeping Hitler and Mussolini are facing a dead tree from which two gallows are hanging. A crow is watching the scene. Behind them shines a 'liberty' rainbow. (Size: 10 x 13 1/4")Unfortunately, we have been unable to identify the talented French artist's name as his signature is extremely hard to decipher.Minor and sporadic rubbing along edges of frames.
