Original red cloth with gilt lettering on spine. 5 3/4 X 8 3/4 inches. 428 pages which include 14 pages of Index. Copy has the following illustrations, a color portrait of Colonel Hays, black and white photographs of Mrs. Colonel Hays, Betty Hays, John Caperton Hays, and Anna (McMullin ) Hays, 4 maps and decorated front and back end papers. Hays (1817-1883) was captain in the Texas Rangers (at age 23) and a military officer of the Republic of Texas. Hays was also the nephew of Andrew Jackson. Small creases on the dust jacket.
