Slim, square 8vo. in blindstamped violet cloth further stamped in gilt on front coloth and spine strip, with cover design of four of the title creatures; all edges gilt. 38 pps. with 14 illustrations. Later edition (first was 1851) of this children's work that depicted stuffed animals from the Natural History section of the Royal Museum at Stuttgart. Plouquet created a display of these creatures in comic poses (on a sofa, at a writing table, etc.) for the Great Exhibition in London. The illustrations in this book were made from daguerreotypes taken of the display. Story text for children.
