Approx. 60 pages. Wraps. Inscription signed by the author. Nice cover illustration of a bird in flight (front and back covers). This collection of approximately fifty poems was written over a span of more than two decades. Initially composed as a personal record of observations, attitudes, and feelings, portions have been shared with intimates, aired on WJTN in Jamestown, New York, and printed in college publications over the years. Kevin Hayes, a graduate of Allegheny College, worked in communications for much of his career, working at Penn State, theUniversity of Oklahoma, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Among the topics addressed from a military perspective are "The Colonel" and "To the General." In terms of politics there are works on "Justice, " "Speak Out, " "Progress, " "Freedom from, or of, or What? " and "Irish Descent." In terms of peace, perhaps, sadly from this deceased bard, are "The Wake" and "At Graveside." There is a clear influence of the western New York and Western Pennsylvania heritage exemplified in his verse "Cornplanter's People, " one of the few recorded poems of the late 20th century about the Seneca tribe of the Iroquois Confederation and its great leader Cornplanter. Mr. Hayes was a proud Irish-American who contributed to his family, his alma mater, the institutions he worked with and for, his communities both local and intrenational, and to the world in general. Sadly, he succumbed to a short illness in December 2006, leaving this world with work yet to be completed and contributions yet to be made. Seller Inventory # 52591
