Folio, 32cm., bound in contemporary manuscript with leather label attached.335pp plus index collated complete. Adams L-344 the variant with the woodcut printers device of Oporinus and not of Episcopius. Wolfgang Lazius, known by his portrait by Archimboldo ('The Librarian'), was the curator of the imperial collections of the Holy Roman Empire and official historian to Emperor Ferdinand I. Born in Vienna, Lazius wrote histories of Austria and also produced important early maps of Austria, Bavaria, Hungary, and Greece. Johannes Oporinus taught Greek at the University of Basel and later became the printer famous for publishing 'De Humani Corpus Fabrica' by Vesalius and the controversial first printed Koran which required the intervention of Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon to be released.
