About this Item

From a theological library, with the front cover present but detached. Lacks the pages before page iii of "To the Reader", which means that the frontpapers and the title page are missing. Also missing are the pages following Sermon II, which may be about 12 pages of an Index. Bound in full, period brown leather, with a library label on the lower spine. The spine ends have chipping. There is a period, slightly faded, gilt lettered spine label. There are 2 red library stamps on the first page of text. The inner front cover and the top of the first page of text have the name of Eliza Gray of Boston, with her 1793 gift inscription. There is a library bequest bookplate on the inner front cover. Pagination: iii-v "To The Reader", vi "An Index of the principal Questions.", vii-xv "A Collection of some memorable Things in the Life.", xvi-xx "The Subscribers Names', pages 1-741 main text, pages 742-746 "A brief view of the Series of the whole Book of the Revelation", pages 747-758 "Sermon I, Sermon II". The back inner hinge is cracked but the cover is still well attached. I cannot determine if this may be the 1680 edition or a 1730 / 1740 printing. It was first printed in 1658, as the introduction by John Carstairs is dated. The pages are well bound, with some small stains to the pages and margins, with some foxing, heavy in places. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 15562
