'Although antiquarian booksellers have long indulged themselves (and encouraged their customers) in the belief that the cuts [by Bewick] from the Treatise were also employed in Hutton's Compendious Measurer. this is largely wishful thinking; no more than a handful of small diagrams made the transition' (Tattersfied, 2, p. 682). 'Practical Geometry' includes 'Of the carpenter's rule', Timber measuring', Artificers works' (bricklayers, plasterers, painters, glaziers, &c), 'Vaulted and arched roofs', &c. (ESTC T129877).
