Seventh Edition, 8vo. 8.5 x 5.5 inches, [iv] + vi + 7-61 + [2] + lxiv-lxvi + 67-344 + [1] + 348-512 pp. Illustrated with 32 engravings. Bound in full calf with five raised bands on spine, with gilt tooling of fish, floats, fishing rod etc, in each spine compartment. All edges gilt, a fine copy. This is the first Bagster Edition of Walton's classic work on fishing containing the seventh edition of the text, with the revisions to the text and the additions to the Hawkins notes made by the new editor, Bagster. The fine copper engravings by Philip Audinet, include portraits, fishing tackle, different fish, two large woodcuts, two engraved pages of music, and a half-title vignette, giving 37 illustrations in all. A fine fore-edge painting has been added to this finely bound edition. The view shows three men in period dress on a river bank in the act of catching a fish with a animated rural landscape as background. The painting is signed with the initials MC which identifies it as the work of Margaret Costa a fine artist and one of the last practitioners of this art. This is the first Bagster Edition of Walton's classic work on fishing, containing the seventh edition of the text with the revisions to the text and the additions to the Hawkins notes made by the new editor, Bagster. The fine copper engravings by Philip Audinet, include portraits, fishing tackle, different fish.
