About this Item

Lacks the frontpapers and the title page. The first page is page vii, which is the first page of the Preface. In the preface, the author states that there have been seven editions already published, and this volume is the revised edition, so I am listing this as an eighth edition. Also, at the back of the book is a list of Norie's books for sale at the Navigation Warehouse in Leadenhall Street, and the latest edition of this book available is a seventh edition. The book is rebound in plain brown leather, with chipping to the lower spine, and shakiness to the front hinge. Contains 6 of 8 plates and maps, lacking plates 3 and 8. There is an illustrated plate of Hadley's Sextant at the section of its' Description and Use. Pagination; 348, lx, 275 pages of tables, and one advertising page, followed by 3 blank endpapers. The top of the Preface page has the early stamp of a Francis Brown, with the inner front cover having several stamps of a J. Brown, with the inscription of a Captain Jeremiah (G.?) Brown of Yarmouth, Maine. The blank endpapers have a little soiling and writing with some calculations. The pages are generally clean and crisp, with a slight musty aroma. I am estimating the publishing date as 1830, but it may be from the later 1820's. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 15358
