Jacket edgeworn, with archivally closed (on verso) edge tear; small circular blind-embossed ownership imprint on title page. A tight and attractive much later (ca. late 1970s-early '80s) printing of this Modern Library Giant (#40), first published in 1938 -- with a nice autograph addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a fine 4½" X 3" slip on which Poe's introducer boldly pens: "with all Cordial Regards, / Hervey Allen / 19 Savage St., / Charleston, S.C., / January 1924."
