Title: The Complete Works of Shakespeare-Ten Volume...
Book Condition: As New
******Small-32mo-burgundy leather-like hardcovers with titles and decorations in gilt on front and spine. No publishing/date information given other than F & R on spine end. Fine/: No defects externally or internally; text exceptionally clean, crisp, bright & unread. AEG; burgundy ribbon bookmark. Preface; Glossary. This is an extremley attractive little set, but very difficult to identify precisely. It appears to be a recent a reprint/facsimile of a work most likely originally published between 1873-1903. The preface (unattributed) mentions the works of Delius, Dyce and the Cambridge Editors, and also thanks P.A. Daniels for his many useful suggestions. This information would therefore set the original in the late 19th-early 20th century. Obsessive searches of, and help from, the Folger Library, Palomar.edu., Bartleby and many other research resources have resulted in no further information beyond the approx. original date of pub. Andrew Murphy's 'Shakespeare in Print' (highly recommended!) yielded little as well. Appended to the set is a 111 page glossary, but no further clues dwell within that either. I am therefore officially flummoxed. Whatever its provanance, the set is still extremely handsome, in burgundy boards with a fleur de lis at the head of the spine, and a Shakespeare silhouette at the tail. Included in the works are all the greats, plus slightly lesser known works such as Passionate Pilgrim; Phoenix and the Turtle; Sonnets to Sundry Notes of Music. Altogether a perplexing and exasperating-but beautiful!- little set. #2008hbr. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-1055512849
