About this Item

An incomplete but exceedingly nicely-preserved set containing the first twelve of the total twenty-four cloth hardcovers, the textblocks of all of the volumes are very clean, relaxed, square, carry no underlining, highlighting or marginalia and all display fairly faint age-toning throughout; the gilding to each of the pageheads is fairly nicely intact. With the pastedowns decently intact to the upper backstrips of all volumes and showing only slight teardropping, rubbing and faint age-toning, the coverboards of each volume are very clean and exhibit the common ailments of rub-through to the edges and backstrip extremities, finish rubbing, light sunning to the backstrips and gentle bumping to the corners; the upper right corner of the front board and lower left corner of the rear board of the eleventh volume show slight waviness, the fore-edge of the front board of the twelfth volume shows specks of offsetting and its rear board shows spots of dampstain, the front board of the sixth volume shows scuffing and a scratch and the lower rear board shows scuffing too, the upper fore-edge and upper edge of the tenth volume shows slight dampstain, the upper front board of the first volume shows a spot of dampstain and its rear board, the upper rear board of the eighth volume shows a fleck of offsetting, the fore-edge of the front board of the ninth volume shows a band of dampstain and its rear board shows scuffing, the lower edge of the front board of the fifth volume shows faint dampstain and cloth waviness and the lower front board of the second volume shows a few scratches and the upper edge of the front board of the third volume shows tiny specks of dampstain.
