About this title

Synopsis:

Out of print for 20 years, and with a first and only printing of 1,000 copies, this indispensible reference has been virtually unobtainable. Now available in a new edition, A Concordance to the Poetry of Robert Frost features a revised and expanded introduction by Edward Connery Lathem, Dean of Libraries and Librarian of the College, Emeritus, Dartmouth.

The Concordance is based on the text of the standard collected Frost edition, "The Poetry of Robert Frost," also edited by Edward Lathem, which incorporates the text content of all Frost's poetry and is currently in its 18th printing. In the "Concordance," some 100,000 words of Frost's verse are indexed, giving immediate reference to every line of poetry in which the specified word appears. The computer-generated pages give the poem's title, the line number in the poem, and the page refrences to "The Poetry of Robert Frost." This indispensible reference is a valuable means of locating specific Frost quotations, word usages, and subject allusions for analyzing text.

Library Journal called the original edition "a model concordance...the end product is of a blessedly manageable size, the typeface is small but easily read, and we have a rarity in hand...an attractive concordance."

From Library Journal:

Editor Lathem assembled these two titles in 1966 and 1972, respectively, when he was a librarian at Dartmouth. Interviews includes nearly 60 talks with Frost gleaned from newspapers, journals, TV programs, and even student newspapers from 1915 to 1962. LJ's reviewer found that Frost possessed a "remarkable ability to be consistent without becoming a bore" (LJ 7/66). LJ's reviewer also stated that the latter volume was somewhat of a "rarity" in that it was "an attractive concordance" (LJ 4/1/72). This edition of the Concordance includes a revised and expanded introduction by Lathem. This fine duo are essential for academic libraries.
