About this Item

16°, early limp vellum (stained and wrinkled; rear cover missing), red silk endleaves. Typographical headpieces and dividers. First few quires shaved, some light stains and soiling, heavier at lower outer corner on last few quires. Less than good but still solid condition. (70 ll.): [unsigned]3, A-H8, I3. *** A guide to confession by St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622). As bishop of Geneva during the Protestant Reformation, his seat was actually in Annecy in Savoy. The terminus post quem for the printing is 1665, the date Francis de Sales was canonized. The printing has a provincial look to it - we think perhaps Mexico - but we have not been able to find the printer listed in OCLC, CCPBE, Rebiun, Josiah, the "Check List of Hispanic Printing Sites and Printers, 1468?-1700" in Penny, Books Printed 1601-1700, the printer's index to Goldsmith, Spanish and Portuguese Books, 1601-1700, or a Google search.Although the collation is odd, the volume seems to be complete, judging from content and catchwords. The final leaf ends with "Laus Deo" set within typographical ornaments.*** Not located in CCPBE. Not located in Copac. Bookseller Inventory # 20822
