About this title

This is a tale of the author's discovery of Ireland and her heritage, and goes on to tell the history of her ancestors through diaries and interviews with friends and neighbors. Also the history of the Connemara Bus, run in the Ferguson family for generations.

From the Back Cover:

Hugh's grandfather, Andrew Ferguson, owned and operated the original Connemara Bus, which began its run in 1932. Connemara refers to a region on the western coast of Ireland. Andrew transported rural women in this area to market in Galway and literally put them in touch with a world beyond their own small, isolated farms. His bus was known as "Bus Na mBhan: in Irish - "Bus of the Women" in English.

As a small lad, Hugh Ryan worked as a conductor on his grandfather's bus. In 1995, Hugh recreated Andrew's Connemara Bus route for tourists. Today as he drives through the countryside, he shares his memories and other touching stories about his grandfather.

Ann Webb was still reeling from becoming a widow when she traveled to Ireland, hoping that researching her genealogy would serve as a much-needed diversion. In the process of grieving for her husband, she discovered that she had not yet come to terms with the death of her father.

The Connemara Bus trip provided her the solace she had been seeking. She also found the strength to seek the remainder of her destiny while walking through fields of wildflowers, filling her lungs with the smell of burning turf swirling from nearby cottage chimneys. She listened and heard, then felt the tremors of her Irish heartbeats. The Connemara Bus tour touched her soul like the gentle brush of an angel's wing. She knew she had truly come home.
