This is copy number 845". Joseph Conrad (1857-1924) was a Polish born naturalized citizen of Great Britain, and is one of the greatest novelists in English. His Preface for the novel "The Nigger of the Narcissus" (1897) is considered an important work in its own right, an influential manifesto on the art of fiction. This volume includes facsimiles of the manuscript of the preface, the manuscript of a later preface written in 1914 called "To My Readers in America", transcriptions of the manuscripts, and an essay by David R.
