Two volume set, complete in white cloth with gold filigree designs to panels in textured red dust jackets with gold titles to spines. Volume I: 303pp; top edge gilt, tissue -protected frontis and B&W photo plates. Volume II: 309pp, index; top edge gilt, tissue-protected frontis and N&W plates. The fold-out map to the back cover is in perfect order. The dust jackets show slight discoloration to the spine panels from age and there is tiny nick to the rear flap fold of Volume II, otherwise DJ's in Very Good condition. Two owner's inscriptions to the end papers, no other markings, hinges solid, covers clean, slight shelf soiling to lower cover edges, solid Very Good copies. There is some faint spotig to the edge of the frontispiece in Volume II. De Amicis was an Italian novelist. This book on the city of Constantinople is considered his masterpiece and gives the best description of this historic city in the 19th century. 8vos, 4.0 lbs (with packaging) Henry Coates, 1896.
