About this Item

97-215, [1] p. Includes maps. Tables. References. The Editor stated that Contemporary Russia's first issue was such a success that a second printing had been needed. The last page presents excerpts from favorable reviews by such bodies as: The Times, The Observer, The Economist, and The Scotsman. From Wikipedia: "Nikolai Golovine (1875, Moscow 1944, Paris) was a Russian general and military historian. After the Russian Revolution and break-up of the army he retired to Odessa where he lived in obscurity until the victory of the Allies and opening of the Black Sea allowed him to come to Western Europe. While living as an emigre in Paris he authored numerous books and articles on military theory and military history." From Wikipedia: "Michel-Joseph Bourguignon d'Herbigny (8 May 1880 23 December 1957) was a French Jesuit scholar and Roman Catholic bishop. He was president of the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, and of the Pontifical Commission for Russia. He was secretly consecrated a bishop and was instrumental in a failed attempt to establish a clandestine hierarchy for the Catholic Church in the Soviet Union during the religious persecutions of the 1920s."
