Ex library blind-stamp of the Carnegie Institution of Washington Solar Observatory. Fine. FIRST EDITION. In this microbiological study, Michael Weinberg isolated Cl. histolyticum. During the 1910s, meticulous investigations were carried out to discover true extra-cellular toxins. Weinberg found a true extra-cellular toxin in the form of Bacterium Welchii, the predominant organism of gas gangrene, and prepared antitoxins of therapeutic value. Weinberg's work on the organisms producing gas gangrene were among the most important studies of pathogenic and non-pathogenic anaerobes. See: Ford, Bacteriology, pp. 118, 144.
