Title: Contributions to the Historical Society of ...

Publisher: Helena: Historical and Miscellaneous Library of Montana, 1910

Publication Date: 1910

Binding: Hardcover

Description:

352 p. The historical association of Montana played a critical role in recording and preserving the history of the. state to be admitted to the United States union, and its lore and legend play a large part in American history because of its vast size but perhaps more than that because its population is small but because many of the folks who made Montana played outsize roles. Montana is legend in the history of the west and particularly of the Northwest as the nation sought natural resources (fur, fish, gold, etc.) and sought passage to the western waterways and to the Pacific Ocean. This book includes twenty-seven illustrations: photographs of persons, places, actions, and maps and charts. The red cloth cover is damaged and is attached by only a few threads to the book; the cover of the spine is detached from the top cover and it is missing large chunks. The front endpaper and the frontispiece (a portrait of Judge Frank H. Woody) is detached from the body of the book. However, the front free endpaper bears an inscription: "This book belongs to Dean Hinman, the son of Josiah Hinman." Below that is written "50." Hinman's portrait and biography appear in the book. The book includes a "List of Pioneers who have Died during the Years 1907-8-9;" and a tipped-in errata slip. Hardcover. Condition: cover, poor, could be repaired; interior, fine.
