A copy worthy of rebinding, as this is a VERY IMPORTANT work in the development of art theory. 8vo. xiii, [3], 396, 2, [16] pp. Publisher's full salmon cloth binding, with gilt title on spine. Binding worn: Spine cocked, cloth of spine detached from rear joint, chipped at head and foot. Covers with corners bumped and boards exposed on edges, front cover with small chip at fore-edge, back cover bent at one corner. Ex-library, with white-lettered shelf number on spine, library charge pocket and slip at rear. Preliminaries and first 18 pp. with chip/tear at outer margin. Creases at page corners, a few pages with a marginal tear. Some pages lightly soiled. One instance of inked marginalia and previous owner's personal correction to text (without obscuring original).
