About this Item

2 volumes. First edition, Text in French and English. Limited to 2000 copies. Signed by Hans Gissinger. Illustrated all throughout with large black and white photographs. 4to, in the original handmade binding of butcher's paper over boards, housed in the original pictorially decorated protective slipcase. unpaginated. A pristine and perfect copy, as mint. FIRST EDITION OF THIS SUPERB WORK ESPECIALLY PLEASING WITH THE INCLUSION OF BOTH FINE TEXTUAL CONTENT AND OUTSTANDING PHOTOGRAPHY. This book, an exchange in words and images between photographer Hans Gissinger and chef Marc Meneau, provides a sharp contrast to what is considered "food photography". The black and white images reveal the process of haute cuisine. Parallel to their meditation on food and its cultural significance are Gissinger's outstanding photographs which find so many things--beauty, depth, and humanity in our relationship with what we eat and how it gets to the plate. The text is in French and English. The bindings were hand-accomplished and limited in number. Bookseller Inventory # 25561
