ca 1821. Contains all 55 engraved plates separated from one another by blank leaves. and an engraved title page. The plates are dated from 1816 to 1821. Leather spine with gilt decoration and leather corners. Marbled paper covered boards with an engraved title plate pasted to the front cover. Marbled endpapers. Bookplate has been removed from front pastedoan. Cover extremities are rubbed and bumped. Half inch splits at top joints. Covers are still sound and tight as are the contents. This is a very rare publication, intended to accompany Bell¿s British Theatre. The plates are very finely illustrated, each scene with its own decorative border. The engraving for Every Man in his Humour is from a painting by Fuseli, and that for Cato was engraved by Francesco Bartolozzi. The book is in very good condition, bound in full black leather with blindstamped decorations on the spine. The leather is rubbed along the hinges and bumped at the corners. The endpapers are split along the hinges, but the book is still tightly bound. There are some light marks and very occasional light spots of foxing, but the plates are generally clean and bright. Each plate is preceded by a blank page. The book stands 21.5 cm tall. Bookseller Inventory # 000906
