Edwards & Broughton Printing Company, NC. Jonathan Worth is an extremely important political figure in North Carolina history of the 19th century. An ardent opponent of secession, he fought it mercilessly until it occurred then fought to have the men join and support North Carolina. He served as the State Treasurer during the Civil War. After the war we served as Governor during the Reconstruction period. He oversaw the state constitutional convention in 1868. Steel-engraved frontispiece portrait of Jonathan Worth in Volume I. Index. Most of Volume I is taken up with his Civil War correspondence. "Covers the political life of the state, 1840-70." Very good copy of the first edition. Volume 1 is 656 pages and volume 2 is from page 657 through page 1313. No dust jacket. Bookseller Inventory # 36071
