Synopsis: Courage: A Novel of the Sea is a throwback to the literary tradition of such early 20th-century writers of the sea as H.M. Tomlinson, Richard Hughes and William McFee. It tells the story of two ships in the North Atlantic where their destinies fuse. An English tramp breaks apart; five survivors cling to wreckage. A nearby liner launches a rescue boat that battles its way through mountainous seas to reach the castaways. The world portrayed is one of isolation, frailty and endurance, and the book's overarching theme, the test of courage.
About the Author: Born in 1929, Alan Littell has worked as a merchant mariner plying the Atlantic and Mediterranean, and as a newspaper reporter and editor in Boston and Paris. He is best known as a nationally distributed travel journalist--his credits include The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Travel & Leisure Magazine--and he is a longtime contributor on maritime subjects to Ocean Navigator Magazine. Courage is his second novel. He lives in Alfred, NY.
