Title: My Courtship and Its Consequences
Publisher: J. C. Derby. New York. 1855.
Publication Date: 1855
Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good
Slight chipping spine top and bottom. Some wear to corners. Very small piece bottom corner page 29 missing. The author reminds the reader that over two years ago he was arraigned at Genoa, Italy for the "abduction" of his affianced bride. Publications at the time were "distorting the incidents of my courtship, and accusing me not only of unmanly violence, but of criminal acts during my surreptitious interview with Miss Gamble, at Genoa". Hoping she would come forward and help clear his name, and to avoid exposing her name before the public, he "endured an odious and cruel imprisonment in silence" but no longer will remain silent. This then is the story of his trial, imprisonment and eventual release. Bookseller Inventory # 817
