About this Item

This is a beautiful and very well cared-for example of this book, that has been protected by the original dust jacket. Very clean and bright, with perfectly attached covers that have no cracking, and with both the spine and the covers having very good, unworn and unbumped edges. The book's copyright is 1923, but this book was printed about 1929, being No. 16 on the list of 22 Oz titles on the back flap of the dust jacket, which ends with Jack Pumpkinhead of Oz. There are 12 color plates as called for in the Oz Bibliography. The book is bound in green cloth, with a very colorful, paste-down illustration on the front cover. The clean dust jacket lacks some small chips off the ends of the spine and the corners. There is a 1-1/4 inch by 1/4 inch piece lacking from the back panel. The ends of the spine have been both covered and backed by now yellowed scotch tape, together with the piece from the back panel. The book's color illustrated front cover has been duplicated on both the front and back panels of the dust jacket. There is a pencilled name on the ownership page. The spine has a very slight darkening in places, and has the head of the Lion printed in blue and white, with the top of his mane done up in a ribbon. There are no prices on the dust jacket, with all 4 corners clipped. 291 very clean, still crisp, and tightly bound pages. Bookseller Inventory # 14591
