About this title

Synopsis:

One morning as the rooster is about to crow, a bee flies straight at him and scares the cock-a-doodle-doo right out of him! He looks for it everywhere--in the shed, in the pond, in the cornfield. But no cock-a-doodle-doo is anywhere to be found. Suddenly he spies a big fox sneaking into the chicken coop. How can Rooster warn the farmer? Full-color illustrations.

From School Library Journal:

PreS?The title of this slight picture book tells the whole story. However, youngsters will no doubt enjoy the simply related scenario featuring the basic cast of farm characters. The repetitive phrases, predictable plot progression, just a bit of tension, and satisfying resolution are all age appropriate. Wickstrom's pen-and-ink and watercolor cartoon illustrations are animated and bright. The expressions on the animals' faces are particularly amusing, especially the wide-eyed and bewildered rooster who can't figure out where his "cock-a-doodle-doo" has gone. A romantic, stylized look at a familiar bucolic setting where, as the final page reads "...all was right with the world."?Lee Bock, Brown County Public Libraries, Green Bay, WI
