The short 1903 novel by Anatole France is presented in a handsome illustrated Heritage Press edition in slipcase. This is the story of a poor Parisian seller of vegetables who gets dragged through the French judicial system. Newly translated, with an introduction, by Jacques LeClercq and illustrations by Bernard Lamotte. Sandglass leaflet laid in (NY, no. XII: 15). --- Bound in marbled paper-covered boards, backed in tan cloth with spine titling in red. Text presented on extra-heavy leaves. All textblock edges stained in maroon. Volume housed in maroon paper-covered slipcase. --- An excellent copy: clean, bright, tightly-bound and lacking apparent damages.
