Containing A Tour on the Prairies Containing Abbotsford and Newstead Abbey Of the Conquest of Spain Carey, Lea & Blanchard, Philadelphia, 1835, original dark green cloth bindings with paper spine labels, 7.5 x 4.75 , 12mo. In as-is condition. Poor. Ex-library. Bindings are quite worn with soiling and rubbing to surface of cloth. Paper labels mostly chipped and toned. Spines faded. Bindings broken and worn. Rear gutters tender with loss. Interiors are soiled and quite toned with various age-staining. Spines slightly slanted from improper storage. Old hand ownerships on pastedown of volume III dated 1855 and 1879. Free of known marginalia. A fragile set. Please see photos. Only 5,000 of the first printings were produced making this title fairy uncommon! This was Irving s first book written entirely in the U.S. following his seventeen year stay in Europe. It was well received by the American public even winning praise from Edgar Allen Poe.
