Synopsis: Holz-Davies, who is not identified, asks why works on religion and literature do not deal with women authors, and why religious poems even by well known women writers are barely discussed if at all in anthologies and works dedicated to women writers. She analyzes poetry from the specifically Protestant culture as it developed in Britain since the 16th century, but ends her study before the 20th century brought massive secularization, the multiplication of available religious and pseudo-religious positions, and the acceleration of feminist discussion. The poetry she discusses, mostly devotional, is concerned with defining the relationship between the individual speaker and a transcendental entity. She has not indexed her work. Annotation c.
