But those in high places, those entrusted with the well~being of an entire nation, constantly come face~to~face with crises~pitting all their capabilities and resources against the brutal realities of the world. These are RICHARD M. NIXON'S SIX CRISES~ The Hiss Case: When subversion from within threatened the United States, Mr. Nixon ~then the junior Senator from California met the challenge by shocking the public's passive sense of security into an awareness of the Communist menace. ~The Fund Speech of the 1952 Campaign: With complete faith in the masses, Richard Nixon decided to bring his case to the people ~a daring step which few others would choose to take. ~President Eisenhower's Heart Attack: The author describes the overwhelming sense of inadequacy and humility when a man knows that he is but a heartbeat away from the Presidency. ~Caracas: Mr. Nixon recounts the terrifyingly helpless feeling of being in the middle of an uncontrollable riot, and the symbol of America in an anti~American demonstration. ~The Kitchen Clash with Khrushchev: A spontaneous and dramatic confrontation, in a Moscow kitchen, of democracy versus Communism, which put to the test every ounce of Mr. Nixon's calm, wit, and resourcefulness~and an account of the hither, to unreported private meeting in K's dacha) which revealed the Premier to the author as "Communist man at his most dangerous best." ~The Campaign of 1960: The self~imposed inner struggle in deciding the best way to serve the people if elected President; the tedious and all~consuming campaign: the emergence of a stronger man in the face of defeat. SIX CRISES is an original, exciting, captivating book by a man who has been in public service for many years. It is a close~up of a dynamic man, revealing the demands placed upon him, the thinking behind his decisions, and the pressures of political life. Mr. Nixon's story is one of challenge, not only to himself but also to the nation. His is the story of six great events in the history of the United States~six turning points, six decisions, SIX CRISES. Bookseller Inventory # 7231401
