About this title

Relates the adventures of Critter, the cat who lives in a classroom and belongs to all the children.

From School Library Journal:

PreSchool-Grade 2-- This photo essay about a cat in a classroom describes the activities of Critter, a photogenic member of the species. In fact, he's a ham. He lazes around on student tables, sleeps under the teacher's desk, hangs out on student laps, has a special Christmas party, wears fancy hats, ostensibly learns some of the things the children are learning, and enjoys weekends and vacations with the teacher at her home. While Critter is indeed a lucky cat to have so many people who love him, and the students are lucky kids to have such a positive influence in class, the book is not a total success. Text transitions are occasionally awkward. Some of the photographs seem muted--the interior backgrounds lack definition and light--and a seatbelt around the cat as he journeys off for the weekend would probably promote rather than prevent injury. --Leda Schubert, Vermont Department of Education, Montpelier
