Synopsis: James and the gang are hard at work making their pet-sitting business, Critter Sitters, a success, but when their money starts disappearing, the hunt is on to find the thief. By the author of No Bean Sprouts, Please.
From School Library Journal:
Grade 2-4-- Hiser continues with the same characters she introduced in Dog on Third Base (1991) and No Bean Sprouts, Please! (1989, both Holiday). Pete, James, Norman, Mike, and T. J. plan to start a pet sitting business during the summer in order to earn money for red satin jackets before school starts in the fall. As a twist to the standard pet sitting theme, no pet is lost--only the money from their cash box is missing. All clues point to Mean Mitchell, the bully of the neighborhood. Even though his alibi is a bit too contrived, the story moves rapidly on to the conclusion. While the conversation of three-year-old Ethan, whom the boys are also babysitting, is too mature for his age, beginning chapter book readers will enjoy the story. --Blair Christolon, Prince William Library, Manassas, VA
