As Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe, Eisenhower (1890-1969) had responsibility for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942–43 and the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944–45, from the Western Front. Later, he served as the 34th President of the United States (1953-61). Includes photographs selected by Edward Steichen and 38 maps, including four in color. This copy is inscribed by Harold L. Esch, a world class lawn bowler who served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and signed by Eisenhower on the half-title. Octavo. Original tan cloth binding, with black stamping. Mild bumping to the corners and tips. Some general edgewear and a tiny bit of foxing to the dust jacket; otherwise very good. Housed in a custom burgundy cloth clamshell box. Seller Inventory # 66408
