About this Item

Curiosa. Rare! Two books in one volume and undated. In almost new condition with black binding and pasted on title in front and on spine. with a undated clipping inside from a Miami newspaper that has pictures of various whippings and torture. First book adds to title on title page:"Facetious Anecdotes of Ladies fond of administering birch ddiscipline. The provocative experiences of flagellants of both sexes." Second book adds to title: " A narrative of the strange customs and cruelties of the Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, etc., with an account of its practice among the early Christians as a religious stimulant and corrector of morals. Also Anecdotes of remarkable cases of flogging and of celebrated flagellants. With numberous Illustrations." Delaware's still legal whipping post (whipping one of "four young negroes") is pictured in news clipping as well as other examples. Clipping has turned inside front cover and next page brown where it sat, presumably from 1930 or so. (No date stated.) No markings or writing inside. Not a remainder or ex-library. Fairly crudely bound with page block of uneven sized pages. Book one has 80 pages, mamy illustrated. Book Two has some 118 pages with additional pages of introduction. Bookseller Inventory # 002370
