A poem delivered to Harvard's Phi Beta Kappa chapter in 1829, on the consequences of Curiosity from the Garden of Eden, on. Charles Sprague ( 1791Ð1875) was a teller and cashier at Boston banks and a poet, son of Samuel Sprague, a noted participant in the Boston Tea Party. His poems were generally written for public occasions and this poem, "Curiosity," written in iambic pentameter, is considered his best work. His theatrical prologues, for which he had won several prizes, often were built upon the heroic couplet and were considered the best since Pope and Gray.
