About this title

Synopsis:

The book provides a comprehensive source of information for Cushman Colonial Creations furniture. The book is intended to be a primary resource for identifying and determining the value of this furniture. There is currently a significant lack of information and resources available to collectors of Cushman furniture. To this point, there have been no reference books or price guides published on the subject. This work is intended to fill the void.

The book contains a large number of pictures of individual Cushman Colonial Creations reproduced from illustrations in vintage Cushman catalogues. The book also contains a significant amount of raw data including model numbers, group names, dimensions, years produced, and finish types. A large percentage of all the Cushman Colonial Creations produced are covered to some extent in the book. The book concentrates on the furniture itself. The history of the H. T. Cushman Manufacturing Company and the designer of the Colonial Creations line are presented briefly. The superior manufacturing methods used to construct and finish the pieces are also described. In addition, the unique style of Cushman Colonial Creations is explained and illustrated.

The book concentrates on the Colonial Creations furniture line produced by the H. T. Cushman Manufacturing Co. Cushman is recognized for this line of furniture. The Colonial Creations line was the company’s most popular, and it was vital in the financial history of the company. Cushman manufactured other styles of furniture before and after the Colonial Creations line. However, this furniture is not within the scope of this book.

A large Database is also provided with the text. The Database contains quantitative information on over 1,000 different Cushman Colonial Creations. It was compiled using over twenty years worth of original Cushman furniture catalogues and price lists.

CONTRIBUTORS:

The book includes contributions from Townsend Wellington and Chris Kennedy.

Townsend Wellington is one of H. T. Cushman’s grandsons. He worked for the H. T. Cushman Manufacturing Company for over thirty years serving as the V. P. of Sales for a number of years.

Chris Kennedy is an avid collector and leading authority on 20th century modern furniture. He maintains the shop American Decorative Arts in Northampton, Massachusetts. He can be seen on television appraising modern furniture as part of the PBS Antiques Road Show program.

Store Description

Thank you for taking an interest in one of our books. Please see the "Shipping Terms" section below for details on our shipping and returns policies. We are a mail-order only bookstore located in Bellingham, WA specializing in modern out-of-print books of all genres. We thoroughly clean all books that we offer for sale and do all basic book-repairs ourselves. Basic repairs include repairing slanted bindings, applying additional glue to hinges that have become excessively loose, hinge-tape repairs for damaged hinges, minor binding split repairs, gluing small tears in exterior of covers, removal (as much as possible) of black marker marks to covers of ex-library books, removal of smaller non-permanent stickers, straightening of minor bowing to covers or spine, and applying jacket protectors to books with torn or fragile jackets or for especially pristine or collectible books. We do not do major binding repairs, and any un-repairable binding splits or general weakness in binding will be noted. Any significant repairs such as a hinge-tape repair will also be noted. These repairs do not usually change the underlying condition grade, but do make the book more presentable. Some books are beyond help and will be listed as "Fair/Acceptable" or "Poor". We do not follow ILAB grading guidelines as we sell newer books across many venues. Our grading system is based mainly on Amazon's grading system. Former library copies are never graded above "Good" regardless of level of wear. We watch closely for any signs of water damage, and even minor water damage will be graded no better than "Good," and all signs of water exposure will be noted. Below is a list of the condition grades we use, in descending order: New/Fine Like New/Near Fine Very Good++ Very Good+ Very Good Minus Good++ Good+ Good Fair-to-Good Fair/Acceptable Poor Very Poor We try to grade accurately, but condition grades are often subjective, so our grading in on the conservative side.

SHIPPING POLICY: We ship exclusively through the US Post Office, and orders are shipped within two business days of order processing. International orders for books that are over 4 lbs or larger than about 7" x 10" will incur additional oversize charges. We fully insure all shipments, both domestic and international, at no additional cost.
