Webb, Jack. THE DAMNED LOVELY. NY: Signet (1233), 1955. First Printing, thus. VERY GOOD PLUS copy. Blonde on the run, witness to a gangster killing. Combo of police and parish priest tackle a professional killer. Nice 1950s noir paperback first printing graced by the sensational cover art of Robert Maguire, arguably the greatest illustrator of Good Girl Art of his generation. Paperbacks such as this, prolific as they are, can only rarely be found signed by their authors. But the real unsung rarity is to find a copy signed by the illustrator; in this case one of legend. Boldly SIGNED "Robert A. Maguire" on the title page. Maguire (1921-2005) made only a very few public appearances and signed but a small number of his books for fans. This is a Very Good to Near Fine example of THE DAMNED LOVELY, with no creasing to the cover image. The book is square, has retained its brilliant red colors, and suffers only a few small chips and abrasions to the back cover. An original vintage 15-cent store stamp doesn't detract overmuch from the image on the front cover. Bookseller Inventory # 001375
