About this Item

Haggard, H. Rider. DAWN, THE WITCH'S HEAD, COLONEL QUARITCH V. C. London: George Newnes, [1907]. First Omnibus Edition with three original full page plates after Cyrus Cuneo. A Very Good copy, slightly worn, school prize label on front paste-down, in original publisher's red cloth ornately decorated in black, all edges gilt. What makes this book special is that one expects Omnibus editions to present an author's more famous works, not the author's most infamous. DAWN and THE WITCH'S HEAD are Haggard's first two forgotten novels, both are five-figure first editions and legendary Victorian rarities in fine original cloth. COLONEL QUARITCH (his 10th novel published years later) is an odd choice to round out the trio. You can easily find reprints of Haggard's classics like KING SOLOMON'S MINES, ALLAN QUATERMAIN, and SHE. But this Omnibus Edition with its fancy dress and peculiar contents is something you don't see every day and an inexpensive way to acquire his greatest rarities. Bookseller Inventory # 001436
