About this Item

(PYNCHON, Thomas). "DEAR THOMAS PYNCHON, WE THOUGHT YOU'D LIKE TO SEE THE FIRST REVIEWS FOR YOUR BOOK!" Folio broadside; single sheet, measuring 17 1/2 by 23 3/8 inches (printed on recto only), illustrated (in black and white, reproducing the front panel and spine of the dust jacket for the first edition of Gravity's Rainbow). The broadside prints excerpts from eleven glowing reviews of Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow, printing long blurbs by Geoffrey Wolff ("Gravity's Rainbow will be compared with Ulysses."), R. Poirier ("At thirty-six, Pynchon has established himself as a novelist of major historical importance."), Library Journal [i.e. Bruce Allen] ("The most important work of fiction yet produced by any living writer."), etc. The broadside was reproduced in The New York Times on March 17, 1973. An extremely scarce broadside, printed upon the release of Thomas Pynchon's 'Gravity's Rainbow,' issued to promote the release of the book, in 1973, by The Viking Press . Folded three times (persumably, as issued), with few small tears at folds, tiny nicks at one edge, else near fine. Original promotional broadside for 'Gravity's Rainbow.'.
