Each volume 51/2 X 8 1/2 inches. Volume 1, xxxii, 551 pages, volume 3, xvi, 598 pages, volume 4, xvi, 662 pages plus appendix xvi. Full brown leather with 4 raised bands and 2 brown labels on spines with gilt lettering. Each volume has the name of previous owner J.L. Tillinghast [Joseph Livingston Tillinghast] in his own hand, in Ink on the spine, volume 1 also has his name on the front cover with R.I after it. J.L. Tillinghast (1790-1844) was a representative to the United States House of Representatives from the state of Rhode Island. Condition of the books is Very Good; spines and edges of covers somewhat darkened, occasional light to moderate foxing on pages, table of contents in each volume, and pages 647-662 in volume 4 are evenly toned to tan/ brown, small amount of worming at upper corner of inner rear cover of volume 3, rear endpapers have a few holes, but printed pages are not affected at all, bindings are tight.
