Thorne, Diana & Albert Payson Terhune. THE DOG BOOK. Akron, Ohio & New York: Saalfield, (1932). Presumed First Edition. A FINE, superb as new copy in original decorated boards (just one corner lightly bumped, and one plate has a previous owner's somewhat charming ink notation in the bottom blank, not touching the illustration itself) in a NEAR FINE complete original dust jacket (a few tiny closed tears and trifling wear). A wonderful example of this large (9" by 12") ode to various breeds of dog with poetic descriptions by Albert Payson Terhune (1872-1942, author of "Lad: A Dog" which was adapted into film by Warner Brothers in 1962) and 12 full-page enduring and endearing illustrations by Diana Thorne (1894-1963), one of the great dog illustrators of her generation.
