About this title

Synopsis:

One wild species is responsible for nearly all the breeds of domestic duck: the Mallard. Over centuries it has been developed into egg-laying strains, table birds, and pets. In The Domestic Duck, Chris and Mike Ashton explain how these breeds have been developed and how to look after them. Contents include breeds, their origins, and characteristics; classic ducks from all over the world; "Designer" ducks of the 20th century; management of adult stock; breeding and rearing ducklings; and common problems and ailments.

About the Author:

Dr Chris Ashton and Mike Ashton have lived on a smallholding in mid-Wales since 1979, where they specialize in pure breeds of ducks and geese and have become one of the top waterfowl breeders in the UK. They gained BWA Exhibitor of the Year awards in 1987, 1996 - 1999. Chris and Mike are both BWA judges in all sections of waterfowl. Chris is the author of Domestic Geese [Crowood 1999]
