About this Item

The third novel by this under-appreciated American author, better known in France and England, where he is placed somewhere between Hemingway and Camus, a hip existenialist. In "The Double View," a contemporary reviewer said, "the action begins in an asylum and ends with rape, a shoot-out, an escape from the asylum and a near-knifing.It is a Jacobean drama.crime, orgy, madness, and death jostle in a fragmented, almost hysterically if undeniably compelling vision." of a half-dozen men and women living out their fantasies in 1960s New York City. Boards show only a touch of wear at the spine ends, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The price-clipped dustjacket shows some soiling and considerable wear along the edges with a triangular, quarter-sized chip missing from the bottom edge of the back panel, with two smaller chips, one on the back panel, the other on the front, as well as several small tears. The damage is almost wholly in areas that do not compromise the dj's lettering or design or the author's photos on the back panel. Scarce. Collectable. Bookseller Inventory # 004985
