Octavo, original brown cloth. First edition. Limited to 803 copies of which this is number 480. Presentation copy with signed inscription by Macdougall dated 1 April 1940 on front free endpaper. The author's first book, 12 fishing stories set on the Upper Kennebec in Maine, two first published in this book, the remainder published earlier in FIELD & STREAM. A bright, nearly fine copy with some minor wear to the back cover. Gilt title on spine fairly bright. A fictional Maine guide who won many friends and admirers through the pages of Field & Stream magazine in the 1920s and '30s, Dud Dean is very much a product of his creator.
