Modern green leather binding stirp, original spine title laid down, with gilt illustration on Native American on front cover. 268 pages. Foxing thoughout, some spine damage and pencil notes in margins. Four colored illustrations based on drawings by General Seth Eastman. Three drawings depicting Sioux symbols. The author's husband, Brigadier General Seth Eastman, was made Commander of Fort Snelling, southwest of present-day St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1841. This is a collection of legends and stories from the Sioux Indians of the area. The Introduction is a short description of the author's experiences at the Fort. The first chapter is titled "Preliminary Remarks on the Customs of the Dahcotahs.". Bookseller Inventory # 15061
