24mo. Burgundy cloth with gilt lettering and pictorial giltstamping, dust jacket. (Ca. 300pp). Near fine/very good. Mild bit of jacket edgewear. Tight, quite handsome first edition of this daily Biblical reading and commentary collection -- boldly signed by Ironside in blue ink on the front flyleaf. Henry Allen "Harry" Ironside (1876-1951) was a Canadian-born American pastor, teacher, author and theologian who preached across the country for decades but is most often associated with Chicago's Moody Church, whose large facility he filled to capacity weekly; in 1935 he preached he delivered Billy Sunday's funeral sermon there. Neatly affixed to an inner flyleaf (with a quaint blue circular "Twelfth Alumni Year" seal) is a charming printed "Moody Sunday School" certificate issued the same year as this book and signed by Moody director Edward L. Johnson -- likely this book was a reward "For the 12th Year of Faithful Attendance." Also, laid into the book is a heavy stock 9¼" X 6¼" head-and-shoulders portrait of Ironside bearing his facsimile signature. Dust jacketed firsts of this title are seldom seen, and signed copies even less so. Bookseller Inventory #
