About this Item

This 1811 Bible contains family records on the back of the New Testament title page relating to the families of Asahel Dakin and Samuel Knight. The back of the Old Testament title page has the inscription: "The Property of Ashel Dakin". The genealogical entries are: "Samuel Knight born March 31, 1777; Anna Knight born May 27 1785, who died May 13 (?) 1820, and their children are as follows: Thomas Jefferson Knight, April (?) 1806 / Samuel Dana, Nov. 8, 1808 / Hannah Ingersol, July 19, 1811 / Israel Wheeler, July 26, 1813". Asahel Dakin's widow married Samuel Knight when his wife died, and she had 2 daughters as listed: Elizabeth W. Dakin, born Jan. 6, 1812; and Mary B. Dakin, born at Sudbury, Mass., Feb. 16, 1819, died July 11, 1843". 2 other entries are for: Hannah Forristall died March 5, 1837, and Catherine Knight died Nov. 30, 1842". Asahel Dakin's widow died, and Samuel Knight remarried for a third time. The bible also contains a four page letter from one of the Dakin daughters giving more details of the Dakin / Knight family life and relationships. This small but thick Bible is in poor condition with an incomplete spine, and with all the pages detached from the binding. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 16257
